2023 Spring Dance Showcase at West Valley Mission College

Some first-semester students had never danced before, but they still stepped onstage for the 2023 spring showcase. They worked through the nerves, performed in front of an audience, and gave the class a night we could be proud of. If you are considering a class, look for one that gives beginners time to learn the foundations before asking for a full performance.

It had also been a long time since I had performed onstage. Sharing the performance with my friend and dance partner, Sammy Ramirez, brought back the nerves, laughter, and energy that make a live show memorable. The final bow was a reminder that teaching and performing can support each other.

The West Valley College class brought experienced dancers and first-time students into the same room. Students contributed choreography, practiced together, and learned how to support a group performance. That mix of experience made the class stronger and gave beginners a clear example of how steady practice adds up.

Wednesday night classes included working professionals, teaching assistants, experienced dancers, and people taking their first dance class. Everyone had to make time to practice, learn the material, and contribute to the showcase. That shared effort is what I remember most from the room.
