Private Hip-Hop Dance Lessons in San Jose
1-on-1 private dance lessons for adults 18 and older in San Jose, taught by Ceech. He has a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley and has taught dance since 1998, with direct training in Electric Boogaloos movement. Hip-hop, locking, popping, breaking, and house dance are available in person at Get Down Dance Studios in Japantown.
Why train with Ceech in San Jose
San Jose has a deep dance scene, and private lessons can give adult students focused time on foundations rather than a full choreography sequence. I've held college faculty positions at Mission College, West Valley College, Gavilan College, and Cabrillo College. I've also guest taught at Stanford, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, Santa Clara University, De Anza College, San Jose City College, and Ohlone College. My teaching approach draws on engineering: identify the movement problem, apply a specific correction, and build up systematically.
My funk styles training includes direct study with Electric Boogaloos members Pop'in Pete and Skeeter Rabbit. That background informs lessons in popping, waving, and Boogaloo alongside the fundamentals of each movement.
Lessons happen at Get Down Dance Studios at 196 Jackson St in Japantown, a professional studio with sprung floors, mirrors, and sound, a few minutes from downtown San Jose. Paid street parking only. Check posted signs for fees and time limits, and allow time to park.

Before you book
Do I need dance experience?
No. Lessons are for adults 18 and older, from complete beginners to experienced dancers. Ceech identifies what needs attention and teaches one step at a time. You can work on multiple styles and request your own songs.
Where and when are in-person lessons held?
Lessons are by appointment only, normally Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pacific Time at Get Down Dance Studios, 196 Jackson St, San Jose, CA 95112, in Japantown. Other times may be available by special request. Ceech usually contacts students around Tuesday to confirm the upcoming Saturday. Appointments are arranged week by week, subject to availability.
Where can I park?
Paid street parking only. There is no dedicated parking lot. Check posted signs for fees and time limits, and allow time to park before your appointment.
Are studio fees included?
Yes. A 60-minute lesson is $250, five sessions are $1,150, and ten sessions are $2,100. All include the studio fee. In-person packages expire one year after the first lesson. Extra participants, music editing, travel, or additional rehearsal time are quoted separately.
Can I record the drills for practice?
Yes. Ceech normally uses the final 5 to 10 minutes of your lesson to demonstrate your custom drills for a practice recording. Recordings are for your personal practice only. Do not share, sell, publish, or redistribute them without permission.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Give at least 24 hours' notice to reschedule. Late cancellations and missed appointments count as a used session; genuine emergencies may be considered case by case. If Ceech cancels, the lesson is rescheduled without using a session from your package.
